Lead source, explained
Every lead came from somewhere, and the lead source is the field that records where. Typical sources for an Indian business include Meta Lead Ads, Google Ads, the website form, IndiaMART, inbound calls, WhatsApp messages, walk-ins, exhibitions and word of mouth. Many teams also record a more detailed layer underneath, such as the campaign, ad set or form, so they can compare two Meta campaigns rather than just Facebook as a whole.
Source is the field that connects sales to marketing spend. When it is filled in reliably, a business can see which channels bring leads that actually buy, not just which bring the most leads. A Surat textile wholesaler might find that IndiaMART sends many enquiries while exhibitions send fewer, larger orders; a clinic might find that Google search leads convert far better than Instagram ones.
The main risk is inconsistent data. When salespeople type the source by hand, the same channel appears under five spellings and the report stops meaning anything. Set the source automatically wherever a lead is captured by an integration, offer a fixed list for manual entries, and never overwrite the original source when the same person enquires again through a different channel. In DigiPix Flow, admins set the list of lead sources the team picks from.
